Boomkat Product Review:
Amsterdam’s Liquorish Records collar Noam Kamal’s debut 12” of mutant footwork, reinforced with a killer Jlin’s remix - her 1st ever! - and a Namebrandsound rework from IG Culture and Bugz In The Attic’s Alex Phoutnzi.
Kamal’s originals are solid takes on the accelerated Chicago sound, taut and well skooled on the sound’s unique facets in his jazzy blue Phaela and the hyper chops of ATM, but if we’ve any gripes they just feel a bit too over-complicated and layered compared with the stuttering but direct flow of footwork proper.
At the risk of sounding like a real ale mug, you’re much better checking this for the inimitable authenticity of Jlin’s rework, breaking down and harnessing Phaela with the tucked-in groove control of a dressage competitor weaving thru a carnival.
