Regrouping for their 4th album attack on Shifted’s Avian, the duo now disclosed as Hannes Stenström and Emmanuel Pascal Moreno do not let up on the intensity of previous missions, unleashing a torrent of overpronating drum machine programming and chewy electronics laced with some of the nastiest hoover sounds on road. Galvanised by Rashad Becker’s biting-point master the results are some of their most headstrong and fearsome, rendered by a pair in masterful control of their singular sound and increasingly adept at pushing it deeper into its own straightjacket with wickedly bristling and uneasy effect.
Focussing on rave’s answer to the power chord, SHXCXCHCXSH shoot the heaviest “mentasms” or “hoover” sounds from the hip, injecting the fabled preset into hazardously misshapen roll cages of slompy, offset kicks and slathering atonalities that really come alive with amplification. ‘Kong’ is a dead strong example at the front, while we also hear the mentasms manhandled and manipulated into more pensive states thru the filter chicanery of ‘Onge’ and squashed to doomier scandi black metal effect in ‘Nges’, where ‘Gest’ runs off at effluent noise techno angles and leads to more introspective interzones on the pensile shapeshifter ’Stio’, and the menatsms return to gnaw your knackered bones on ’Tion’.
