Boomkat Product Review:
The latest from Pretty Sneaky, the anonymous project that has been quietly hiding behind a banana peel logo and self released white label 12” EPs, this time for Marionette - following outings for Mana and Meakusma.
Pretty Sneaky present a calm peach from its cult, rotating assembly of incognitos, this time recorded in collab with Marseille’s Norman Levy aka Koldd for a strong second album full of subdued atmospherics and moody intersections intended for soothing frayed nerves, It’s not Levy’s first Pretty Sneaky rodeo, as it’s now revealed that he has previously contributed to the first track on their Meakusma 12”, and track 3 of PRSN4, and here leads the collective thru their functions, recorded in collaboration on the French south coast.
As such it is understandably given to sanguine feels, fragranced with bird calls and open window atmospherics on a procession of chiffon layered synths and burbling rhythms. Nothing is hurried or over egged as they waft along the garden path of hazy keys and lagging arps in ‘memory theme’ to a gorgeous patch of ‘movie interlude, wind, and power supply circuit’ blushing with gallic romance to the languid jazz hustle of ‘entering theme’, following lines of extended, dubbed out melody in ‘desert theme’ to the diffusion of ‘raindrops theme’ with an exquisitely dreamy elegance.
