Boomkat Product Review:
Shitkatapult wunderkid and Ellen Allien’s fella returns with this blistering new 12” for Bpitch, featuring some collaborative work with the mrs herself. The A-side features two versions of the title track, the first recorded in 2002 and the second in 2003. Koax 2002 expands with a digital splice, squeezed beats and a tough, relentless compression. An Autechre-ish (LP5-era) swing focuses the parts, the track entering into a percussive dogfight of sorts, a nasty bassline winning out in the end. Ace. Koax 2003 evolves along similar lines, although a melodic sequence of synths and tones grows in stature as the track moves on to provide a more rounded, beautified tip. Ellen Allien scores a remix of “Koax” on the flip, her peculiarly pitched and vocoded voice aaaaahing itself into the beat which is, not to be undone by her fella, brilliantly complex, tough and advanced in that finest hip-hop tempo digi-glitch sorta way. A collaboration between the two follows to end the EP in fine style. Wicked.
