Aerodynamic techno by Berlin’s Giulia Fournier, aka GiGi FM, on her 2nd 12” and debut for her own label, Sea-rène
‘Kiwi Synthesis Diary Vol.2’ is the sort of effortlessly graceful techno that keeps dancers in motion all night and day at Berghain, where GiGi FM plays regularly. The EP leads on from her 2022 vinyl debut for Bambounou’s Bambe label with an hypnotic subtlty that she toggles from the sublime tension of her floating pads and lissom groove on ‘Amadamushies’, thru the infusion of her own vocals on the sleek, cantering gait of ‘Tevora’, before shifting up a gear to peak time with ‘Sly Xupete Di Barcelona’, and the acidic suspension system ‘Spazio Teletrasporto’. The more flee-footed ‘Househopping (Keroppi)’ pushes the tempo right up in step with fast techno trends to a breathless peak, and we can easily imagine the likes of Ben Klock turning the floor to a lather with the rolling percussion and Detroit-y synths of ‘Tsuru’, which cannily recalls her near namesake Gigi Galaxy.
