Boomkat Product Review:
Junior Boys cap their busiest year on record with a ‘floor dedicated 12” loading four tracks not found on their excellent Big Black Coat album, or any other release for that matter.
We’ll say right upfront that we’re big fans of Junior Boys, but objectively speaking this is classic JBs, striking hot and fresh with the nimble bounce, breezing chords and dubbed-out call-and-response of Yes, and strangely getting under the dance’s skin with the elusively distanced vocals and wide sound design of Babyfat.
However, whilst those two are clearly up-for-it, the flipside plays it down in their bluest soul style with a delicately smudged, bubbling cover of John Martyn’s Some People Are Crazy, whilst Kiss Me All Night plays to their experimental pop strengths with achingly warped vox and whirring Linn funk.
