Walton / Gremino / Visionist / Vibezin
Keysound Allstars Vol 1
Fierce four-way on Martin Clark's Keysound, featuring Walton, Gremino, Visionist and Vibezin. Manchester UKF standard-bearer Walton, on leave from Hyperdub, supplies 'Cool It VIP' - a heavily syncopated but fluid roller driven by gun-clicks and grimey strings straight out of D Malice's 'Gabryelle' refix. Rupi VIP', by Finland's Gremino, begins as a straightforward Pulse X-style grime tribute, all hollowed-out synths and razor-sharp clap formations, but develops into something more complex and weird with the arrival of eerily wafting string-pads and cheap digi-dancehall horns. Visionist straps chopped-up ragga vocals to a minimal, Hessle Audio-esque steppers' rhythm - simple but deadly effective - before Vibezin sees us out with a 'Little Higher', a garage-rooted, almost jazz-inflected production on an unusual and addictive flex that reminds us of Zed Bias's Phuturistix gear.
