Boomkat Product Review:
An interesting variant on post rock from the early days of Ba Da Bing, Juneau are a band comprised of two guitarists, a drummer and a whole lot of noise. Their sound often recalls Sonic Youth in some sort of wigged-out rehearsal room instrumental jam, with the guitars often pursuing very different lines of inquiry whilst the drums hover around ominously in the background, waiting to erupt. It seems that for many of these pieces one of the guitars floods one half of the stereo field with beautifully textured noise whilst the other creates spiny, more detailed figures. This is at its most effective on pieces like 'Saw', which features one of the instruments gliding through a wall of effects while the other plots out a plaintive melody. Sometimes frenetic and overwhelming, sometimes just downright pretty, Juneau's free music articulations are a class act.
