Boomkat Product Review:
Confusingly titled June 27th Vol.2, no doubt to tie it in with the stone-cold-classic ‘June 27th’ mixtape, this is yet another unofficial odds-and-ends collection of tunes from Houston legend DJ Screw. While it might not have the solid-gold line-up of its predecessor, ‘June 27th Vol.2’ still manages to collect some great moments from the tragically deceased producer. As usual there are plenty of nods to West Coast G-Funk, and classic 2Pac productions get the chopped ‘n screwed treatment which is never a bad thing. Screw’s name has become synonymous with a certain level of quality, and while this isn’t one of his better known selections (pretty obviously scraped together after he died) it still shows off just why he is revered as a producer. There’s rarely a dull moment across three bumper discs of tunes, and anyone out there that hasn’t come across Screw before should remedy that instantly.
