Boomkat Product Review:
This latest album from the mesmerising Charalimbides stretches across 75 minutes of inspirational, dense and harrowing drifts of musical smoke and Christine Carter's harrowing vocal swathe - bringing to mind the early work of Meredith Monk. Joy Shapes is the first studio album recorded by Charalambides in quite some time and features 5 long tracks (the shortest is 10 minutes, the longest is over 20 minutes long) that edge between the sublime and the intense - fusing a weave of chimes, pedal steel guitar, effects, bells and a host of acoustic instruments that caress Carter's delivery with an almost devotional, spiritual effervescence. Kranky are doing no wrong at the moment and it's nice to see them put a release to vinyl at long last - a record to get lost in during sleepless nights and troubled afternoons. Highly Recommended.
