Boomkat Product Review:
Wow, I wasn’t expecting this. Another meek and very limited slip-case release from the folks at Early Winter Recordings, ‘Joshong’ sees nu-folk stalwart James William Hindle (who has recorded for labels such as Badman Records and Track & Field in his time) slowing things down for a collection of 11 subtle and carefully measured works absolutely guaranteed to win your heart. Using harp, guitar, bells and sometimes his voice, Hindle has powers most contemporary folk acts can barely hint at and has created an album which should probably be much better known that it will be. One for fans of John Fahey, Sufjan Stevens and Six Organs of Admittance, the album is varied, deep and perfectly paced, I’m sure it would sit alongside a night outside by a campfire quite marvellously.
