Boomkat Product Review:
A long time coming, 'Joined Ends' finally provides a follow-up LP to Dorian Concept's hyper-coloured debut, 'When Planets Explode' (2009). In the meantime the Austrian producer has been conspicuous by his absence from the scene, during a time which the likes of FlyLo, Rustie and HudMo have flourished with a lush, complex sound quite similar to his own. On return with 'Joined Ends' he's now best compared with the jazzy fruit of FaltyDL or Dego, a nimble warp and weft of classically trained virtuosity and processed instrumentation done with a light-hearted soul and heavy funk. Now working with a Wurlitzer electric piano and handful of analogue synths, rather than his trusted MicroKorg, the results are fathomably more widescreen and clinically contoured than his previous output, yet somehow it all feels simpler, more fluid, allowing for uncluttered expressions of ecstasy, fragility and dancefloor charm.
