Boomkat Product Review:
Kompakt come correct one last time for the year 2001 with this ace 12” from Justus Kohncke. The original mix of 'Jet' is a superb slice of Georgio Moroder-esque club fodder. Heading in to the 80's with a fantastic arpeggiated bass-line, filtered synth sweeps and a classic 303 line, Justus rocks the floor. Building to a spacious breakdown 4 minutes in, he then rebuilds the layers like an old hand, really kicking in the groove for the last half of the track. 'Shelter' is slightly more up to date, with a piano riff that could have come from the early chicago days. Uplifting synths are added to bring a hands in the air vibe to the track, but the drum programming keeps it straight on the floor. Finally to the Michael Mayer rmx of 'Jet'. A much more stripped down affair, and a serious groove too. Michael keeps it minimal until the break, when the 303 is let loose to awesome effect, and really keeps the track rolling. A fantastic piece of Kompakt action to end the year on.
