Moesha 13 is a DJ/Producer of Malian origin based in Marseille who catalyses a buckwild blizzard of francophone hip hop, reggaeton, and slamming and brukken hardcore in her thrilling entree to Hakuna Kulala - a crucial RIYL DJ Diake, Nkisi, MC Yallah.
Based out of Marseille, Moesha 13 rides prevailing heatwaves from Africa, the Caribbean and South America in a reckless style that rewards hardcore times in the club. Shotting tunes as both producer and DJ since the late 2010s, her elevation to the Shape platform for breakthru artists, and the start of her NTS show in 2020, helped firm up bonds with Hakuna Kulala, who now host this roiling barrage that takes in its rugged, pitching flow from breakcore to Kongo tekno, R&B and mutant dembow.
For a dead solid hour Moesha 13 is locked in, gnashing breakcore yoked to fierce Kongo tekno in the opening passage, paving the way for jump-cuts into sped-up Favela Funk, a juking flip of Tinashe, and chrome-hoofed soukous shoulder barging into peppy pop-hardcore and more bullish blasts of heat from unknown corners that identifies her as a proper party-starter with baga tunes under her belt.
For every nuclear kick and stab there’s moments of more psychedelic sensuality and pop shimmer, as with a stunning cut of pitch-warped harmonic pads and spectral frissons that opens side B and launches into a more reserved but pressurised 2nd half, tilting the switch between squashed dembow mutations, Afrobeats, and ambient chanson that temper her path to more romantic vibes and a lush turn inwards by the closing strokes.
