Boomkat Product Review:
**Gatefold card slipcase with 14-page booklet of lyrics, notes and photos** 'Japandorf' is the swansong album by late, legendary Neu! drummer and guitarist, Klaus Dinger - inventor of the "motorik" beat - with fine artists from the Japanese community of his hometown, Düsseldorf. Recorded between 2000-2008 at his Zeeland Studio on the Netherlands coast, and in his home studio near Düsseldorf airport, it captures a brimming sense of positivity in 12 tracks of signature krautrock chug and melodic guitars matched by vocals oscillating between gruff German and chirpy, higher Japanese registers. The spirit which drove Neu!'s early music from the kraut underground into a worldwide consciousness is undeniably present; each track has an undivided sense of purpose and trajectory, driving towards a utopian horizon with chants of "Cha Cha 2000, Dance To The Future With Me" on 'Cha Cha 2008', or hunkering down to the lusty cosmic chug of 'Ai (Liebe)', whilst taking rare moments out for the ballad of 'Space Melo' or the kindly tenderness of 'Osenbe'. It's not hard to hear that there's a real magic to this album, bound to be recognised and enjoyed by auld long-hairs and youthling prog-pop fans alike.
