Boomkat Product Review:
Five years since his main stage introduction on FabricLive. 57, Jackmaster steps up to the DJ Kicks series with a deeper testament to his world-renowned selector picks and skills.
With a rich and well storied history - working for Glasgow’s Rubadub; co-founding the Wireblock and Numbers labels; fronting one of the UK’s biggest clubnights; DJing residencies on Radio 1 and in Ibiza - Jack occupies a unique position with one foot planted in the UK’s ’90s house and techno history, and the other firmly booting contemporary ‘floors into touch.
His selection here is more layered, spacious and rolling than his previous outings, perhaps a more “mature” run, rather than cram-em-in-before-the-lights-go-on style that Glasgow’s licensing laws demand. Make no mistake though; it’s still all about the party.
It starts out with the sexy sci-fi tone of Freedom From Antboy II off Lnrdcroy’s lush Unthank 10” and ends up on a proper Detroit-to-Berlin rave tip with vintage Hood, Shockwave and Pom Pom bombs, winding thru a whirring, tightly wound gauntlet of classic Chi house from Mike Dunn, Berlin techno by Basic Channel, whipsmart Italian acid from Lory D, and a coupla exclusives from Tessela, Alcatraz Harry, and his local boy, Denis Sulta for good measure.
