Boomkat Product Review:
Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood inaugurates his classical label, Octatonic, with J S Bach’s ‘Partita No.2 In D Minor’ (1720) for Violin, performed by Daniel Pioro.
Written between 1717 and 1720, the three hundred year old piece is part of Bach’s compositional cycle called Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin. This recording was made at St John the Evangelist Church, Oxford, produced by Jonny Greenwood, and engineered by Graeme Stewart.
Johannes Brahms puts it best: “On one stave, for a small instrument, the man writes a whole wold of the deepest thoughts and most powerful feelings. If I imagined that I could have created, even conceived the piece, I am quite certain that the excess of excitement and earth-shattering experience would have driven me out of my mind.”
For all the listeners: it’s a pinnacle of human endeavour, right? For all the collectors and Discogs gang: the vinyl noise floor is very low and the packaging is super study.
