Boomkat Product Review:
New to Shitkatapult, Notic Nastic are a New York/Berlin electro-punk act, and on this - their debut full length - they launch into a noir-ish, slightly seedy brand of electronic pop music. It's Dark But It's OK clearly owes some sort of debt to the electroclash movement, but takes a more modern slant on all its genre trappings. The production is very much in-keeping with the established set of robust Shitkatapult aesthetics, throwing gnarled synth noises around the mix whilst pounding out a merciless 4/4 crunch, but tracks like 'Stupid Happy', 'The Luckiest Pig In Albany' and the acidic 'Das Disk' all deliver in terms of fun, energetic dancefloor pop music. Some of the most interesting moments arise when unexpected deviations from genre guidelines work their way into the tracklist, as on the electro-influenced R&B thumper 'Secret Life', the mangled freeform miniature 'Kids On Kitten', ambient closer 'Fjord Escort' and towering dubstep monster, 'Sleeptight'.
