Boomkat Product Review:
LA-based modular synth maverick M. Geddes Gengras returns with a gorgeous extended suite for Matthewdavid's Leaving Records. The session is named in respect to the lone survivor of the Yahi Indian tribe, subject of the 1961 book Ishi: In Two Words, symbolising the personal loss of two of Gengras' friends. Over four increasingly extended pieces ranging from 6 to 43 minutes in length, he opens huge harmonic spaces, at once moving forward, outward yet very centred and serene, scoping out pink-hued harmonic overtones in 'Ishi', glorious astral waterfalls in 'Passage', and widescreen vistas in 'Threshold', before the longest, 'Vigil' veers off into fluidly rhythmic abstraction feeling out space between the styles of KFW and OPN.
