Boomkat Product Review:
Long time no hear from New Zealand's Bevan Smith a.k.a. Signer, who makes a welcome return under the disco/pop alias Introverted Dancefloor among good company such as Toro Y Moi and Young Magic on Washington DC's Carpark Records.
If you're at all familiar with his tender ambient/dub techno releases as Signer, you'll be happy to learn that he's still got that knack for wistful hooks and comforting harmonic arrangement, but, as the gauzy vox his last LP hinted, he now deals in proper song formats, and sweetly so.
Like a much less offensive Hot Chip or a gauzier, odder Junior Boys, he flits thru 13 succinct compositions ranging from romantic disco bliss like 'Happiness Is Such A Mess' to warbling autotune miniatures like 'Love' to the broader techno-pop scope of 'Feeling Unsound', without forgetting a fizzy dash of experimental funk in the tortuous, noisy 'A Golden Light' and the melting avant-pop structures of 'Shy Away'.
