Boomkat Product Review:
Way back before Oren Ambarchi really made an impression on our listening habits with his 'Suspension' and 'Triste' album, he issued this immersive side of guitar concrète in 1999 on Touch. Now finally available to download, 'Insulation' presents the virtuosic Antipodean string-wrangler nimbly de/constructing the overly familiar instrument to sound more like '50s/'60s Pierre Henry than almost anything else, perhaps bar a few contemporaries from that time such as Fennesz, Pita, or Kevin Drumm, yet most brilliantly there's not a computer in sight. Hard as it might be to believe from hearing, every one of its squirrelling vortices, resonant qlanks, humming thrums, stereo-vaulting tones and zig-zagging shapes comes from six strings and an amp and is bound to leave even the most knowledgeable listeners and dextrous players beguiled and deeply impressed. Highly recommended.
