Boomkat Product Review:
A highly intriguing set of live recordings and "extreme aural mixes" capturing, for the first time, the disciplines of Larsen and Z'ev in collaboration. 'In V. Tro' was conceived as the soundtrack to a series of micro-cinematic images created between 1935 and 1985 at Bologna's Instituto di Anatomia Umana Normale (Basic Human Anatomy Institute) and assembled by professors Dario Cantino and Antonio Barasa. The images pay tribute to the maestro of anatomical discipline Giuseppe Levi, and there's a clear link between his studies of isolated organisms and the elemental, evolutionary soundscaping of Larsen and Z'ev's esoteric experimental rhythms. The first six tracks were recorded live in Torino on 23rd of September, 2009. They open to a virtuoso percussive performance by Z'ev before incorporating Larsen's ensemble of electric viola, glockenspiel, theremin, shruti box, thumb piano, singing bowls and widescreen electronic processing in five vast, yet microscopically engrossing arrangements of morphing shapes and texture. Taken to their lab (studio), the live results are subjected to much closer inspection, zooming in with sharply intimate focus to reveal the structure of far more introspective and minimal sound organisms and their incredibly rich tones and textures.
