Boomkat Product Review:
Irdial legend Ramjac Corporation meets Toronto’s Raf Reza on a carousel of haunted electro-techno-house to initiate Orphic Apparition
As recently highlighted in The Irresistible Force vs Ramjac Corporation’s ‘Live at The Brain 1990’, Paul Chivers aka Ramjac was a key live player and producer in the acid flash years of 1988 - 1992. Some 30 years later, he returns to his dancing boxes in tandem with honorary Glaswegian Raf Reza, chasing a playful voodoo down the rabbit hole with five cuts of radiophonical electronics yoked to pulsating machine music shades away from Ramjac Corp’s Irdial aces.
‘In The Grow’ appears in a handful of subtly skewed variations on a sort of haunted house theme, each revolving a Delia Derbyshire-like lead, but various steered between stepping techno (‘Rotting Mix’), brisker Drexciyan arps (‘Rotten Mix’), ‘00s electro-house budge (‘Rahtted Mix’), Pye Corner Audio-esque chug (‘Swampy Dub’), and a pulsating plasmic stepper (‘Rootless Dub’).
