Boomkat Product Review:
The Dutch master of Detroit-style hi-tech funk pulls together a sterling suite of Afro-futurist aces for his buds at Amsterdam’s Rush Hour.
Radiating soul and colour from every angle, In My World is the closest you’ll come to the light shows in Orlando Voorn’s swede. Its eight tracks swirl with chromatic lushness from the jaunty swing of Space Age thru the tuff, deft techno funk of Let Me Lead The Way to a pair of psychoacoustically-probing aces in the chaotic harmonies and hyaline designs of Goon (Entire Kickless) feat. Trish van Eynde, and the beautifully intricate high-end thizz of Anti Political.
On the 2nd plate, he keeps us high in the mix with The Swamp’s perpetually ascending synths hovering over distant, murky subs, for Predator’s Cave to bring the electro hydraulics with fresh force and style. Anyone craving kick drums, meanwhile, should find them in the rugged but sensitively unstable groover Chicago By Night, and Turn Left Right Here closes this opus like some lost Shake and Strand link-up.
It all far exceeds expectations and should be strongly recommended to fans of Terrence Dixon/Population One, Anthony Shakir, Juan Atkins, Derrick May.
