Boomkat Product Review:
Lush, contemporary Ethiopian electronica with E.R.’s 2nd jag for the acclaimed 1432r label following Dawit Eklund’s technoid twyss-up, the Ouroboros EP.
Nearly a year after the well-received Qen Sew EP established E.R. as a unique artist, the In My Sleep EP asserts a distinctive sound with four tracks breezing traditional Ethiopian melodies against tactile, software-carved grooves and layered atmospheres, picking up a roiling, dreamy momentum with Terraraw into the elegant, psychedelic sway of the EP’s epic, tortuous title track.
Turn over and Woyene bumps the pressure levels from underwater dub to cosmic chug and ambient wooze, whilst Hetebet trades in hot and heavy tribal trod licked with avian flutes.
