Boomkat Product Review:
‘In Gleam’ is a welcome return from ambient sorcerer Nadia Khan, whose ‘Open Interior’ debut for Where To Now? left a subtle but indelible impression when we first heard it.
Recording for Brooklyn’s Scissor & Thread label, Khan reprises and expands upon the milky bliss of her earlier outings in four parts, including a lush yet sturdy collaboration with label boss Francis Harris, and supplemented by a club remix from Alex Albrecht Melquíades
Khan impresses most when at her subtlest, featherlight, as in the 12”s bookends, the free-floating gauze of ‘In Gleam’ and the drizzly beauty of ‘Sunburnt’, while her other solo cut ‘Sorting Through’ lends some infectious, rolling bass momentum to her breezy arrangement.
Meanwhile on ‘Local Visit’ with Francis Harris she works up a lovely, lilting froth of Afro-inspired rhythmelody, and Alex Albrecht Melquíades firms up ‘Restless’ in the remix somewhere close to Murcof or Efdemin.
