A selection of demos and unreleased songs from around 2014, when Los Angeles psych rock four-piece Wand were in their infancy, 'In A Capsule Underground' has finally been given a proper vinyl release.
Cory Hanson, Evan Burrows, Robert Cody and Evan Backer's band might sound polished these days - just check 'Vertigo' - but back in the early years, before they signed to Drag City, they had a rawness that separated them from the wider scene. Just check 'Clearer mix 2', a rugged early demo of the 'Ganglion Reef' standout that enhances the synthesized wonk and boxes up the Silver Apples-like drums even further. Elsewhere, unreleased jam 'Fugue State 23-23-23' finds them nudging against United States of America territory with fuzzed-out rawk that gradually melts into analog-powered kosmische ambience, and 'Gong Report 4_11' sounds like Krautrock reimagined on an old Atari. Good stuff.
