Boomkat Product Review:
Reso rounds off a heavy year for hi-tech dubstep releases with a cold and shiny hard hitter for Civil Music. Reso's production style has won him a hardcore of devoted fans, eager to hear the next development in his powerfully synth driven style that bears more of a resemblance to the slick D'n'B production methods of Spor or Pendulum than the warmth and subtle flex of Kode 9 or Mala. 'If Ya Can't Beat 'Em' is a pure crowd pleaser built from breaks style snare rushes and D'n'B-ish drops with a maelstrom of hypercoloured and angular synthlines attacking from every angle for a technoid overload that sends floors mental. The flipside 'Spooky' doesn't look back either, running forward at a stuttered pelt with a playfully hyperactive sense of rhythm and enough FX to score a Manga animation, if you're looking for the hi-end of electronic edged dubstep this is the stuff. Fans of DZ, Caspa or Skream will be right on this.
