Boomkat Product Review:
The novelty record, it’s a strange beast… one part hilariously funny and one part insanely annoying, they come around every so often and I’m forced into the position of reviewing them. I’m not averse to the odd bit of humour you know, smiling, laughing, it’s all in my nature when it’s called for but there’s a line, a big fat chalky line probably about a metre wide – you honestly can’t miss it. Kings Have Long Arms have not only missed the line but they’ve vaulted so far over it that it’s not even visible anymore, they’re not even in the same continent as the line. I suppose they would claim they make humorous electro-pop, but when you sing songs about stalking Lisa Riley humour quickly turns into disgust and eventually a bucket of warm vomit. I’m quite surprised to see the Human League’s Phil Oakey making a guest appearance on former single ‘Rock ‘n Roll is Dead’, one can only assumed he was under the influence of some particularly heavy tranquillizers. The cd album comes packaged with a DVD of admittedly quite well made video-mashups which manage to be slightly less irritating than the tunes themselves. Only for the seriously masochistic.
