Boomkat Product Review:
Ultravivid and meticulous technicolour pop from Bear In Heaven. Reaching critical mass with their third album, Jon Philpot and his cohorts, Adam Wills, Joe Stickney and Sadek Bazaraa summon strong comparisons to Pet Shops Boys with their fine grasp of expansive, elated songcraft and production. Opener 'Idle Heart' is an arrow-direct pop missive, spilling over with lush synths and yearning vocals and powered by insistent rhythms, but with a modern, manicured noise twist proving they aren't simply a Pet Shop Boys or New Order homage. And if you can get over how much the singer sounds like Neil Tennant, there's much more to be enjoyed on their own merits, from the quiet/loud stadium-worthy prowess of 'The Reflection Of You' to the sweltering swagger of 'Sinful Nature', the 1080i widescreen HD production on 'Cool Light', or the swooning elegance of 'Warm Water'. No half measures here, you'll either be attracted to this, or put off by the glossiness of it all, but for our money it's a very strong sound.
