Boomkat Product Review:
How many modern musicians can you name that would put on an impromptu (although undoubtedly PR endorsed) outdoor London show, then distribute boxes full of homemade fairy cakes to the enraptured fans? No not Girls Aloud; we're talking everyone's favourite beard, Devendra Banhart who did just that a couple of weeks back in Regents Park, playing chunks of his new album 'Cripple Crow', off which 'I Feel Just Like A Man' is the first single to be culled. Opening with a lengthy tract of after hours piano and acoustic what-not, 'I Feel Just Like A Child' suddenly morphs into a swampy blues-folk song, with Banhart (sounding like a restrained Jack White) extolling the virtues of childish behaviour. A significant leap from old favourites like 'The Hop', 'I Feel Just Like A Child' (backed by exclusive non-album tracks) indicates the hype which surrounded Banhart initial appearance was not misplaced.
