I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One (25th Anniversary Deluxe Edition)
25th Anniversary Deluxe Edition of Yo La Tengo's "I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One".
If you only buy one Yo La Tengo album, it should probably be "I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One". There's a completeness to the record that makes it sound fresh decades later - and it's not like they haven't been ripped off constantly in the time since. The band's eighth album, it caught them at a surprising crossroads as they decided to build out from "Electr-O-Pura" and its fizz'd guitar rawk, incorporating electronic sounds and Krautrock influences. And while songs like 'Sugarcube' and 'Deeper into Movies' are typically blown-out indie jammers, moments like the Badalementi-esque 'Shadows', the almost ambient 'Green Arrow' and ten minute motorik feedback workout 'Spec Bebop' show just how willing Yo La Tengo were to experiment.
Groovy organ-led indie disco fave 'Autumn Sweater' is still a stand-out, but there's more to the album than that, including a cover of the Beach Boys' 'Little Honda', a version of quirky 1960 Marie Osmond-covered pop song 'My Little Corner of the World, and the electro samba experiment 'Center of Gravity'. This edition comes packaged with a grab-bag of additional tracks, including three Peel Sessions, and three remixes of 'Autumn Sweater' from post-rock royalty Bundy K. Brown, John Herndon, Douglas McCombs, and David Pajo, My Bloody Valentine's Kevin Shields and μ-Ziq.
