Boomkat Product Review:
Hyperdub present an exclusive-crammed first volume of four compilations celebrating ten years as a vanguard dancefloor and electronica imprint.
In line with Kode 9's original sonic concepts exploring the intersection of cybernetic culture, philosophy and forward dance music, in 2014 the label's remit takes in up-to-the-second Footwork from Chicago alongside the gulliest London Grime and hyper-coloured computer boogie from a far-flung but like-minded pool of producers. Arguably the most exciting pieces on this volume come from that virulent Chicago scene, most notably with the shocking polymetrics of DJ Earl's 'I'm Gonna Get You', and the intense pressure of Heavee's 'Icemaster'. And closer to home, the UK is strongly repped with the spine-tingling potency of Kuedo's 'Mtzpn' and Flowdan's dread missile 'Ambush', and of course the boss man Kode 9 is present and correct with the paranoid mutation 'Chasing A Beast' starring Spaceape, and in Helix's super-crafty glitch 'n kicks remix of 'Xingfu Lu'. We could go on thru the other killer cuts from DVA, Kyle Hall, Morgan Xarate, Quarta 330, and co, but surely by now you know to trust this label with your (listening) life.
