Boomkat Product Review:
Deep house maverick, Hunee spills his mind all over the 'floor on his debut album, 'Hunch Music'. Over the last decade, Berlin-based Hunee has emerged a standard-bearer for sophisticated, psychedelic and soulful house music with a trim handful of tracks and 12"'s via Permanent Vacation, Ostgut Ton, and Rush Hour, all leading up to the dizzying colours and gripping arrangements of 'Hunch Music'. Rooted in the deepest traditions and disciplines of New York, Chicago, and Detroit, and with a trace of Korean heritage discernible in the his melodic sweetness, it plays out like a mid-summers dream of feathered House creatures; flush with jazz-taught chords, buckets of vintage-sounding drums, and an all-important grasp of syncopated sub/bass movement which nudges it out of reach of more formulaic, trudging, and stochastic House styles.
