Boomkat Product Review:
A hugely enjoyable little 7" this, an utterly charming, other-worldly meeting of spooky compositional styles and strange noises, all under an umbrella of school-folky brilliance packed into one tiny, perfectly-formed package. Tori Kudo, aka Maher Shalal Hash Baz, and indie-jazz guru Bill Wells have both been doing the rounds for a number of years now - though this 7" shows the first fruits of their collaboration, soon to be followed by an excellent full-length on the ever-appealing Karaoke Kalk imprint. Side A is classic Hash Baz, the instrumentation here is so gloriously loose that you could imagine it being played by a school band, it just teeters on the edge of being totally appalling, but ends up being insanely addictive, just genius. The Bill Wells collaboration on the flip, meanwhile, is a deep and lazy jazz number almost tripping over itself it's so relaxed - rounding off this beautiful oddity here, one that comes with a hearty, charmed, glowing recommendation.
