Boomkat Product Review:
Initially released on Domino (it went out of print almost instantly) just prior to the release of their 'Cold House' masterpiece (in at a ridiculous Domino mid price campaign price this week). 'Home Is Where It Hurts' is a five track twenty five minute sampler of styles taken from the same studio sessions used for the album. Here, Hood are completely at ease with theirselves, marrying their early ragged stylings with a more direct purpose, fusing together their delicate influences revealed here with their use of dub delays, post rock patterns and intense guitar rock thrashings alongside Chris Adams distinctive vocals. Track highlights are the genre inventing post rock gloomrock electronics of 'The World Touches Too Hard', which is a close relation to 'Cold House's' 'You Show No Emotion At All' and the eight minute, aching soul / lonely jazz dub post rock blues of 'It's Been A Long Time Since I Was Last Here'. A Hood anthem that's been on constant office play here for what seems like ages. Hopefully Domino will find space in the schedule to release a new Hood record soon. Something that we and you need now, more than ever. Completely essential Hoodmusic.
