Boomkat Product Review:
Kazumichi Komatsu a.k.a. Madegg pursues a playfully elusive ambient-techno geist thru the 12 tracks of New, his 4th solo album since 2011 and 2nd for Japan’s flaü label.
With the lightest touch, he unspools a dream sequence of sounds from the fluttering tape loops of Savages and clustered chamber noise in Portrait of a Diagram to trek the discombobulated patterns of Palace of Robe and head subaquatic with the sodden thump of National Water and Chain’s refractive electro-jazz shimmer.
Deeper in, the dream becomes more fragmented with the quicksilver trickle of Cave Reflection and tan OPN-alike footwork flux in Paste Dream giving way to weathered dub techno of Chandelier and Unicorn’s fluffed-up, bobbling loops.
