Boomkat Product Review:
Seriously now guys, this is getting ridiculous, every other record I’ve heard in the last few weeks has been some variant of punk… post punk, dance punk, punk funk, pre punk, punk metal, punk core, cyber punk, punk punk… I’m going to crack up any time soon. It was like when every other record was a variant of electronica, but this time it’s shouty people with detuned guitars and fuzzy amplifiers. I have to say though this one isn’t bad at all, maybe I’m getting soft, maybe I’ve become de-sensitized to it all – like watching war footage or something but with brighter coloured hairstyles. Still I can imagine getting my groove on to this particular shade of dance-tastic girlish shoutcore, even if I do have to mention the B52s and Gang of Four for the ten-zillionth time this week. Maybe I like the fact that with YSPWSD (see what I did there…) we get a little more refined vocalising than usual, with lead singer Becky Ninkovic coming across something like early Sleater Kinney (RIP) which is definitely a good thing in my book! If you like the current slew of Kill Rock Stars releases and maybe the brighter side of DFA’s trendy output then there’s a good chance you’ll be able to find tracks to grab hold of on ‘Hit the Floor’. Just don’t mention the P-word punk.
