Boomkat Product Review:
One of Psapp's undoubted charms is their seemingly homespun approach to all aspects of their music; whether this be the attictronica that tinkles throughout, or Galia Durant's feline obsessed illustrations which grace the sleeve - it all feels as welcome and comforting as a cup of tea. Yet (as with said beverage) whilst it's oh-so easy to brew up something that has the constituent parts and pretty much serves its purpose, there's a genuine talent in doing it well - something which Psapp have distilled to perfection. Teased from the welcoming climes of their recent 'The Only Thing I Ever Wanted' LP, 'Hi' is a cluttered ballad that takes Durant's honey-sweet vocals and frames them in an aural patch-work quilt that somehow draws the ear in even further - as bellows wheeze, cogs click and a miniature one-man-band falls down the stairs. The kind of pop music which doesn't presume its listener is a ring-tone addled fool, 'Hi' is backed by the equally delicious and exclusive 'Apple Black' - wherein Carim Clasmann and Galia Durant release a batch of glitch into their composition, with fidgety success. Bye!
