Boomkat Product Review:
Cambridge's The Broken Family Band were on the receiving end of some very high praise for their previous album Balls, and the goodtime indie-country of Hello Love is bound to win them further plaudits. The band tap into a kind of Anglo-Americana influence that's as much soaked in barn dancing, countrified motifs as it is in homegrown indie trappings. In that sense you could compare these guys to The Magic Numbers, but there's a slightly edgier quality to The Broken Family Band, as demonstrated by the blues rock of 'Love Your Man, Love Your Woman' or the eight minute noised-up Nashville of 'Seven Sisters'. That said there's plenty here in the way of adorable, downbeat indie songwriting, with 'You Get Me' and 'Julian' sounding especially effective. Very nice indeed.
