Boomkat Product Review:
Probably best known for his collaborative work with Move D , solo records from Benjamin Brunn are a relatively rare occurrence, so this four-track EP for Third Ear is instantly noteworthy. Famed for his love of analogue gear - particularly his trusty Clavia Nord Modular - Brunn presents a warm, chord-driven take on house music that's impossible to resist, and easy to get lost in. Epic opener 'Stay Hungry Stay Foolish' combines opalescent synth tones with low-slung, snappy Chicago-style drums; 'No Kicks' is a sequel of sorts, dropping the 4/4 pulse and placing the focus on those crisp snares and a spoken vocal that comes over like a female Saul Williams. 'Hello Ammerika' is a more 'floor-aimed and bass-driven cut while closer 'Acidic Sun' squeezes 303 fart 'n squelch into an ambient yet grooving avant-house template. This is club music for dreamers and smokers, sensuous and psychedelic but crafted with a clear sense of purpose. Top-notch.
