Boomkat Product Review
Psych-pop purveying wife/husband duo Pigeons follow up their Si Faustine album on Olde English Spelling Bee with a further two sides of homespun lo-fi loveliness. Fastened together using the simplest of beatbox loops, a wandering bassline and a few key guitar leads, 'The Paradise' has something quite magical about it, keeping its constituent parts spare and minimal whilst allowing the silvery central vocal to flood through the recording. B-side 'Radio Souvenir' is pretty wonderful too, lacing its shuffling drum machine grooves with some discerning sax soloing and clever, multi-layered guitar embellishments. Although the productions are grounded in a fairly minimal approach there's nothing simple or straight-forward about this pair's handle on pop music. Great stuff.
