Boomkat Product Review:
DJ Olive (aka Gregor Asch) is probably best known for his collaborative work with Kim Gordon or Luc Ferrari, and for his incredible hypnotic album releases on the Australian Room40 label, yet this album, released on the DJ Rupture affiliated 'The Agriculture' label manages to re-align his musical status yet again. Taking in a record-shop's worth of musical influence, Asch manages to distil hip-hop, ragga, jungle, dub, latin and anything else he can get his mitts on over the course of 'Heaps As'. The album is a recording of edited live shows, and I can hear why these tracks would work in a live environment, they are intelligently placed together and are powerful and moving, however - the juxtaposition of genre doesn't always work perfectly. For the most part Asch avoids turntablist cliche's though, and when he's on point (specifically on the heavy'Laughing Eyes') he proves he could compete with the best labels like Ninja Tune have to offer.
