Boomkat Product Review:
Electronic Pop maverick, Matthew Dear presents his first new material since 'Black City', paving the way for his forthcoming long-player 'Beams'. Opener 'Headcage' was crafted in conjunction with production duo Van Rivers & Subliminal Kid (Glasser, Fever Ray, Blonde Redhead) at New York's famed Rare Book Room facilities and features his distinctive, deep-fried croon underscored by a slow, tugging bass arpeggio and bubbling percussion in deeply sensual pop style. 'In The Middle' augments this aesthetic with a more positive, melodic vocal from Jonny Pierce aimed at the Indie-Pop sophisticates. 'Street Song' is our fave, possibly imagining Autre Ne Veut experimenting with the Ghost Box posse, while 'Around A Fountain' opens a portal into stranger 4th World ambient House reminding of the recent OPN album or Laurel Halo with deliciously queered dissonance, shuffling polyrhythms and cooing chorales.
