Boomkat Product Review:
A rough-cut, reportage-style 4-hour documentary setting the record straight on sonic alchemist and the architect of "The Manchester Sound", Martin Hannett, via interviews with all the usual Factory suspects - Tony Wilson, Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook, Vini Reilly - and many others. Inside, they raise and answer the question of whether Joy Division's 'Unknown Pleasures' and 'Closer' albums would have become such seminal touchstones without Hannett's involvement, and also get down to the the technical nitty gritty of his unorthodox production techniques, his background in Chemistry, and his involvement in the Manchester scene from early '70s onwards. It's pretty much the most comprehensive feature on this sorely overlooked genius and a must for any self-respecting Factory Records fan.
