Boomkat Product Review:
From now on we're going to classify all music by the groups myspace description. So we get an album of 'Hardcore Anime Dub' songs from Dalston's Dokkebi Q. Their name refers to a mischievous and mythical being in Korean folklore and reflects the pair's mixed Japanese/Korean heritage. Vocals are brilliantly handled by Kiki Hitomi (also of King Midas Sound and Black Chow) who can uncannily flip from sweet 'n dreamy to mutilated shriek at the touch of a button. Gorgonn is responsible for the DSP'd punkdub production, at once touching on Kevin Martin's bashy sound and the more eccentric splurges of Ove-naxx, mixing a black punk attitude with dancing dub rhythms. The results found on 'Hardcore Cherry Bon Bon' are extreme, restless and thrillingly unstable, like finding yourself unexpectedly p*ssed in the middle of a gig before someone offers a nose of something and you wake up in a squat with a three legged dog trying to seduce you. Love this!
