Boomkat Product Review:
This eccentric Japanese pop group have a floating line-up often stretching to a ten-piece for live shows, with a host of performers noodling away on various exotic instruments as well as trombone, saxophone and digital electronics. Regardless of whatever impression that might give you, Andersens are essentially a troupe of pop musicians. Clearly groups like Maher Shal Hash Baz, Tenniscoats and Happy End have all had an influence on the elaborate experimental lounge-folk sounds these guys come up with, but the knack with a good melody is ever-present. 'I am So Tired' sounds like some sort of Tom Waits tribute, whilst the luscious 'Leo' is a magnificent stab at Sgt. Pepper-style psychedelics. As a whole you could surmise that this is the kind of pop music you'd hear on such estimable labels as Noble, or even Taylor Deupree's J-pop imprint, Happy. Lovely.
