Boomkat Product Review:
Seattle's Medical Records follow their electro-senses to Switzerland circa 1982-84 and the shockingly sharp output of two 14/15 year olds, Guyer's Connection. This eponymous collection follows a blink-and-miss it reissue by German label Kernkrach in 2005, adding several extra tracks and newly restored/remastered/remixed versions of track which have been waiting, glowing in the dark corner of a Swiss studio until now. The duo of Tibor Csebits and Philippe Alioth released their debut 'Portrait' in 1983, which has since become hugely sought after by electro collectors. By 1984 they'd added a couple of extra members, Christoph M (who would go on to produce Gotan Project), and vocalist Monique M, who both appear on some of these tracks, touching on a piquant mixture of jaunty, Schlager-ish pop and more killer synth-pop and minimal synth gems such as 'Discoqueen II' and the dreamy Euro-pop of 'He Sabine!'. Their style is achingly precise and efficient, with tracks rarely outlasting their welcome and packing in as many brilliant hooks as you can handle.
