Boomkat Product Review:
Scuzzy sleaze from Martin Rev ov Suicide’s ‘To Live’ album, coughed up on Estonian wildcard label, Porridge Bullet/Pudru Kuul
Previously only available on a CD album in 2003, the overdriven lounge-lizard styles of ‘Gutter Rock’ are highlighted on the front, while the B-side turns out two crackshot electro-punk cuts riven with Rev’s hugely influential swerve.
‘Gutter Rock’ sees him sashay under the disco ball with a salty pucker of corny lounge vibes pushed into the red and topped with his overdriven vox to infectious effect somewhere between a V/Vm pisstake and the real thing. However, our personal favourite is reserved to the B-side, where he sets thizzing vocals to a street-brawling tussle of electro and carnival drums, before tucking thumbs into his belt holes of his leather duds for the swaggering ‘In Your Arms.’
That B1 is a proper (porridge) bullet!
