Boomkat Product Review:
Yorkshire's The Lodger tap into the kind of witty, janglesome pop as defined by The Smiths and The Wedding Present, all delivered with the kind of unaffected regional accents that seem to be so essential for bands to succeed nowadays. The band's approach is unashamedly poppy, with effortlessly breezy tunes counterbalanced by bittersweet, wistful lyrics. These songs seem to carry the last 25 years or so of British guitar pop on their shoulders. In here you'll hear everything from The Jam to '90s Britpop, and frankly it all sounds pretty ace. When the tempo does dip, as on tracks like 'Bye Bye', to the band's great credit there's still no sign of their relentlessly mellifluous sound being compromised. Very nice indeed.
